Development of extraction separation analysis systems using ionic liquids as extraction media

Okamura, Hiroyuki

no journal, ,

Ionic liquids (ILs) are salts in a liquid state even at room temperature, and their properties are quite different from conventional molecular liquids. Thus, ILs have attracted much attention in various fields as novel media. When an IL is used as a medium in the liquid-liquid extraction separation, not only uncharged species found in conventional organic solvent systems, but also cationic and anionic species through ion exchange with the constituent ions of the IL are extractable. Therefore, a novel extraction system with superior extraction and separation performance can be constructed by designing and using an IL suitable for the extraction of the target chemical species and the complexes formed. Furthermore, ILs are expected to act as a novel functional reaction field in separation analysis because they have unique solvent properties that are significantly different from those of conventional liquids. In this presentation, I introduce the development of extraction separation analysis systems for metal ions and anions using ILs as extraction media by dividing into two research subjects: research on highly efficient and selective extraction separation and detection of cations and research on highly efficient extraction separation and detection of anions.
